Stages Theatre Group

… is the title of the play that Stages Theatre Group will be performing in place of the 24 Hour Store that was performed in 2001 at the British Council and subsequently taken to India. The entire cast felt that the undertones and mode of the 24 Hour Store was inappropriate given the prevailing situation and atmosphere in the country.

The motive of ‘24 hours’ is simple: to capture the events of 24 hrs in current
Sri Lanka. Researched, written, workshopped and acted by the entire cast, ’24 hours’ is a window into the happenings in Sri Lanka from 7am 14^th of August to 7am 15^th of August 2006.

‘24 hours’ is a collection of reported events in
Sri Lanka from the 14^th to the 15^th of August 2006. Stages collected the information, and will share it with the audience, through theatre. Not a single word has been inserted into the information collected, and what will be performed is what has already been reported to the public in newspapers, radio and the internet.
